Description

rCan f5 is an allergen component of dog epithelium, which is a kallikrein protein of the prostate gland produced by intact male dogs. This allergen component is present in dog hair and dander and causes sensitization in about 70% of individuals allergic to dogs.

Indications

Diagnosis of allergic reactions to dogs.
Assessment of sensitization level and risk of allergy development.
Monitoring the effectiveness of ongoing therapy.
Evaluation of sensitization level after allergen avoidance.
Assessment of immune system status.

Preparation

Blood should be drawn in the morning on an empty stomach or 4 hours after eating.
Drinking plain still water is allowed.
Do not smoke for 30 minutes before the test.
For children under 1 year – no food 30-40 minutes before the test; for children 1-5 years – 2-3 hours fasting.

Clinical Significance

The Can f5 allergen component is a primary marker of sensitization to intact male dogs. Sensitization to this allergen component is associated with symptoms of asthma, rhinoconjunctivitis, and can also cause polysensitization. Due to cross-reactivity with human prostate-specific antigen, sensitization to Can f5 may cause sexual disorders, including infertility, and is important in anaphylactic reactions.
