The peach allergen component Pru p4 is a profilin – an actin-binding protein and one of the important panallergens. It has high similarity with profilins from other fruits of the Rosaceae family, such as apple and cherry, and can also cross-react with profilins from pollen of unrelated plants (Artemisia vulgaris, Betula alba, Corylus avellana, P amygdalus). Pru p4 is associated with mild symptoms of oral allergy syndrome and serves as a marker for predicting non-systemic allergic reactions to peach.

Pru p4 is an important panallergen found in the flesh and skin of peach. It has a molecular weight of 14 kDa and is a eukaryotic actin-binding protein. Profilins like Pru p4 often cause cross-reactions with pollen and other plant allergens. Sensitization to Pru p4 is usually associated with mild allergy symptoms. Pru p4 is labile to high temperatures and pH, and is degraded in the gastrointestinal tract, which affects the clinical manifestations of allergy.
