Phl p12 is a minor allergen component of timothy grass pollen (Phleum pratense), belonging to the family of plant panallergen profilins. It is a non-glycosylated protein that binds actin from the cytoskeleton of plant cells. Phl p12 is an acidic monomeric protein with a molecular weight of 14 kDa, thermolabile and easily degraded by pepsin. Molecular isoallergens of Phl p12 are officially recognized by WHO and IUIS.
Phl p12 shows cross-reactivity due to structural similarity to other profilins, which is important for accurate diagnosis of allergic reactions. The test helps detect sensitization to allergens of major groups and monitor the body's immune response.
