rDer p1 – allergen component of the house dust mite Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, one of the most active house dust allergens. This mite lives in beds and bedding, feeding on skin flakes. It is found on the skin, in urine, sputum, and lungs of patients and causes allergic reactions related to sensitization to mites and their metabolites.
Der p1 is one of the main allergen components of house dust mites with a sensitization prevalence of 70-100%. Inhalation of mite feces increases asthma risk up to fivefold. Reducing exposure to Der p1 decreases symptoms of rhinitis and asthma. A high degree of cross-reactivity with Der f1 (Dermatophagoides farinae) is important for selecting specific immunotherapy (SIT). Biochemically, Der p1 is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 25 kDa that disrupts the epithelial barrier and stimulates inflammatory processes in the airways.
