Description

Ara h9 — nonspecific lipid transfer protein (nsLTP), a component of peanut allergen. LTPs are stable, resistant to heat treatment and protease action. Patients sensitized to Ara h9 may exhibit systemic clinical signs, including bronchospasm, as well as oral allergy symptoms. Ara h9 IgE has limited diagnostic accuracy due to cross-reactivity with other LTPs but is a valuable marker in diagnosing allergies related to peanuts, pollen, and fruits.

Indications

Diagnosis of allergic reactions to peanuts.
Assessment of sensitization level and risk of allergy development.
Monitoring therapy effectiveness.
Assessment of sensitization level after allergen avoidance.
Evaluation of immune system status.

Preparation

Blood sampling in the morning on an empty stomach or 4 hours after eating.
Drinking plain still water is allowed.
No smoking for 30 minutes before the test.
For children under 1 year – no food 30-40 minutes before the test; for children 1-5 years – 2-3 hours fasting.

Clinical Significance

Ara h9 is an important marker of sensitization to the peanut allergen component, allowing identification of patients at risk of systemic allergic reactions. This protein is resistant to heat and enzymatic treatment, causing not only local but also systemic allergy symptoms. Detecting sensitization to Ara h9 aids in accurate diagnosis and treatment selection for peanut allergy, especially in regions with a high prevalence of LTP allergies.
