Ara h8 is a homologous allergen component of Bet v1 and belongs to the PR-10 protein group, typically associated with increased sensitization in regions with high tree pollen exposure. This protein is present in peanuts in small amounts and does not resist digestive enzymes and stomach acidity. Ara h8 usually causes mild symptoms related to oral allergy syndrome. Patients with monosensitization to Ara h8 often demonstrate tolerance to peanuts. This marker has limited diagnostic use for confirming true peanut allergy but is useful in diagnosing symptoms caused by cross-reactivity to birch pollen.

Peanut allergy affects 1–2% of the population in Western countries, usually beginning in childhood and persisting throughout life. Approximately 20% of children may develop tolerance. Ara h8, as a thermolabile protein, typically causes mild symptoms associated with oral allergy syndrome. There is cross-reactivity between Bet v1, Ara h8, and Gly m4 (soy). Sensitization to Gly m4 can cause systemic symptoms, unlike Ara h8. It is also important to consider cross-reactivity with lupin, which can cause food allergy due to the use of lupin flour in products.
