Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a modern molecular biology method that allows the detection of DNA or RNA of infectious agents, even at low concentrations.

Description

A comprehensive PCR test for detecting the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The analysis is performed based on a smear taken in a special transport tube with eSwab medium. Sample collection allows for rapid and accurate identification of infectious agents even in the absence of symptoms.

Indications

Primary screening for STIs;
Early diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections;
Prevention of complications and transmission of infection to sexual partners;
Suspected infection without pronounced symptoms.

Preparation

Sample collection is performed before or 14 days after completing a course of antibacterial, immunobiological, antifungal, or antiviral treatment.

Avoid sexual intercourse for 3 days before the test.
Refrain from urination for 3 hours before the test.
Men: abstain from ejaculation for 3 days, avoid baths and ointment use.
Women: do not take the test during menstruation (only 3 days after its end).
Avoid douching, baths, use of intravaginal suppositories, ointments, tampons, as well as manual gynecological examination and transvaginal ultrasound for 3 days before the test.
When registering, inform the administrator about the cyclic nature of hormonal fluctuations.

Clinical Significance

This test is an important tool for timely diagnosis and monitoring of sexually transmitted infections. Early detection of pathogens allows for effective treatment, prevention of complications, and reduction of the risk of transmission to others.
