Beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) is the most common protein in cow's milk serum, accounting for 50% of the total protein in the whey fraction. This protein has no homologous counterpart in human milk, making it an important marker for diagnosing allergic reactions to milk.

FEIA (Fluorescence Enzyme Immunoassay) – quantitative determination.

  • Diagnosis of allergic reactions to cow's milk.
  • Assessment of sensitization level and risk of allergic reactions.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of therapy.
  • Assessment of sensitization level after allergen avoidance.
  • Evaluation of immune system status.

  • Blood should be drawn in the morning on an empty stomach or 4 hours after eating.
  • Drinking plain still water is allowed.
  • Do not smoke for 30 minutes before the test.
  • For children under 1 year – do not feed 30-40 minutes before the test; for children 1-5 years – 2-3 hours fasting.

BLG is a major allergenic component of cow's milk and plays a key role in the development of allergic reactions in children and adults. Although modern infant formulas try to mimic human milk, BLG remains the dominant protein in the formula, which can trigger allergies in sensitive children. Measuring BLG levels helps assess sensitization risk, monitor treatment, and adjust diet to reduce allergic symptoms.
