Lemon – the fruit of the lemon tree, which is one of the common allergens. Although the true origin of the lemon is unknown, it is believed to be northwestern India. Consumption of lemon can cause allergic reactions of varying severity, including food allergy, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, atopic dermatitis, and anaphylaxis.

IgE antibodies to lemon are detected in patients with food allergy, atopic dermatitis, and respiratory diseases. Lemon and other citrus fruits (lime, orange, grapefruit) can cause cross-reactive allergic reactions. There are cases of anaphylaxis associated with physical exertion and lemon consumption. This test helps determine the level of sensitization and supports effective treatment.

  • Blood should be drawn in the morning on an empty stomach or 4 hours after eating.
  • Drinking plain still water is allowed.
  • Do not smoke for 30 minutes before the test.
  • For children under 1 year – do not feed 30-40 minutes before the test; for children 1-5 years old – 2-3 hours fasting.
