Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) is one of the most common salad vegetables worldwide, originating from the Mediterranean region. Known since 400 BC, it is used as edible leaves in various forms: head varieties, leaf varieties, and Cos (Romaine). Lettuce contains the lipid transfer protein (Lac s1), which can cause cross-allergic reactions with other foods and pollen.

FEIA (Fluorescence Enzyme Immunoassay) using ImmunoCAP (Solid-phase Immunofluorescence) – quantitative determination of sensitization.

  • Diagnosis of allergic reactions to lettuce.
  • Assessment of sensitization level and risk of allergic reactions.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of allergy therapy.
  • Evaluation of sensitization level after allergen avoidance.
  • Assessment of immune system status.

  • Blood should be drawn in the morning on an empty stomach or 4 hours after eating.
  • Drinking plain still water is allowed.
  • Do not smoke for 30 minutes before the test.
  • For children under 1 year – no food 30-40 minutes before the test; for children 1-5 years – 2-3 hours fasting.

The test helps identify cross-reactivity between different species of the genus and members of the Asteraceae family. Patients allergic to lettuce may have cross-reactions with endive and other foods containing lipid transfer protein (LTP). Lac s1 shows high similarity to proteins from peach, cherry, and plane tree pollen, which is important for comprehensive allergy diagnosis.
