Lentil is an annual plant with flattened edible seeds a few millimeters in diameter. It is grown in warm and subtropical regions worldwide and is a nutritious source of protein and a popular food in the Middle East, India, and Europe. Lentils are widely used as a meat substitute and contain allergens that can cause sensitization in children and adults.

FEIA (Fluorescence Enzyme Immunoassay), ImmunoCAP (Solid-phase Immunofluorescence) – quantitative determination.

  • Diagnosis of allergic reactions.
  • Assessment of sensitization level and risk of allergy development.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of ongoing therapy.
  • Evaluation of sensitization level after allergen avoidance.
  • Assessment of immune system status.

  • Blood should be drawn in the morning on an empty stomach or 4 hours after eating.
  • Drinking plain still water is allowed.
  • Do not smoke for 30 minutes before the test.
  • For children under 1 year – no food 30-40 minutes before the test; for children 1-5 years – 2-3 hours fasting.

Lentils contain allergens Len c1 and Len c2, which cause allergic reactions, especially in children with food allergies in the Mediterranean region and Asian communities. Consumption of lentils can lead to sensitization, so diagnosing allergy is important for proper treatment. Lentils are a source of protein, minerals, and vitamins but require heat treatment to eliminate toxins.
