Medicinal ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a monocotyledonous evergreen plant of the ginger family. It is used as a spice worldwide and has a rhizome often mistakenly considered a root. Ginger has a long history of cultivation and is known as the "white root."

  • Diagnosis of allergic reactions to ginger.
  • Assessment of sensitization level and risk of allergy development.

  • Blood should be drawn in the morning on an empty stomach or 4 hours after eating.
  • Drinking plain still water is allowed.
  • Do not smoke for 30 minutes before the test.
  • For children under 1 year – no food 30-40 minutes before the test; for children 1-5 years – 2-3 hours fasting.

Sensitization to Liliaceae, as well as to garlic and onion, has been detected in children (4.6%) and adults (7.7%). There are reports of allergic reactions to inhalation of ginger dust. Excessive ginger consumption may cause urethral irritation, increase bleeding risk during surgery, and enhance the effects of warfarin therapy. There is broad cross-reactivity among different species of the ginger genus.
