Equ c1 is a horse allergen component, a lipocalin, which is the major allergen found in the saliva, hair, and urine of horses (Equus caballus). This homodimeric protein weighing about 22 kDa is the most common allergen component among patients allergic to horses.

FEIA (Fluorescence Enzyme Immunoassay), ImmunoCAP (Solid-phase Immunofluorescence) – quantitative determination of the allergen component Equ c1.

  • Diagnosis of allergic reactions to horses.
  • Assessment of sensitization level and risk of allergy development.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of ongoing therapy.
  • Evaluation of sensitization level after allergen avoidance.
  • Assessment of immune system status.

  • Blood should be drawn in the morning on an empty stomach or 4 hours after eating.
  • Drinking plain still water is allowed.
  • Do not smoke for 30 minutes before the test.
  • For children under 1 year – no food 30-40 minutes before the test; for children 1-5 years – 2-3 hours fasting.

Equ c1 is a species-specific marker of sensitization to horse allergens. Sensitization to Equ c1 is associated with a risk of severe asthma and rhinitis in horse-sensitive patients. The allergen component cross-reacts with other animal lipocalins (dogs, cats, mice), which should be considered when interpreting results. The main route of exposure is inhalation of the allergen component, although it is not widely dispersed in the air.
