Carob tree (ceratonia) (f296)1585
The carob tree (Ceratonia) is an evergreen tree native to the Middle East. Its pods are widely used in the food industry, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, as well as animal feed. The carob tree is a known "hidden allergen" that can cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Its products are used in dietary supplements, baby food, confectionery, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
FEIA (Fluorescence Enzyme Immunoassay), ImmunoCAP (Solid-phase Immunofluorescence) – quantitative determination of sensitization to carob tree allergen.
- Diagnosis of allergic reactions to the carob tree.
- Assessment of sensitization level and risk of allergic reactions.
- Monitoring the effectiveness of ongoing therapy.
- Evaluation of sensitization level after allergen avoidance.
- Assessment of immune system status.
- Blood should be drawn in the morning on an empty stomach or 4 hours after eating.
- Drinking plain still water is allowed.
- Do not smoke for 30 minutes before the test.
- For children under 1 year – refrain from food for 30-40 minutes before the test; for children 1-5 years – 2-3 hours.
The carob tree is a source of "hidden allergens" due to the widespread use of its products in food and industry. Heat treatment reduces the allergenicity of carob tree proteins. Cross-reactivity with peanuts, peas, chickpeas, and soy is possible. Cases of occupational and inhalation allergy to carob tree pollen are known. Carob gum is used as a thickener in food products and may affect the absorption of trace elements. This test helps diagnose and monitor allergic conditions.
