Black tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant and is the second most commonly consumed therapeutic non-alcoholic beverage worldwide. 78% of global production is black tea, 20% green tea, and less than 2% yellow or oolong tea. Tea allergy is rare but can manifest as throat swelling, shortness of breath, nasal congestion, cough, and other symptoms. The main allergenic component is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg), which causes food and occupational allergies.

FEIA (Fluorescence Enzyme Immunoassay), ImmunoCAP (Solid-phase Immunofluorescence) – quantitative determination of sensitization level.

  • Diagnosis of allergic reactions to black tea.
  • Assessment of sensitization level and risk of allergy development.
  • Monitoring therapy effectiveness.
  • Evaluation of sensitization level after allergen avoidance.
  • Assessment of immune system status.

  • Blood sampling in the morning on an empty stomach or 4 hours after eating.
  • Drinking plain still water is allowed.
  • No smoking for 30 minutes before the test.
  • For children under 1 year – no food 30-40 minutes before the test; for children 1-5 years – 2-3 hours fasting.

The tea plant (Camellia sinensis) is the source of black, green, and yellow teas. Tea consumption has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and other beneficial properties. However, allergic reactions can occur in some cases, particularly to epigallocatechin gallate – the key allergenic component. The test helps detect sensitization, which is important for allergy prevention and treatment. No cross-reactivity with other allergens has been identified.
